We have no reviews yet. En Vogue is back! They have been in many talkshows explaining how the album began as EDM and sort of evolved from there.

The hint of EDM is quite evident throughout. The song "Electric Cafe" is pure EDM with a hint of old roots. The album is filled with excellent En Vogue harmony and decent beats. I have been listening to it whenever I'm able and it is amazing. It's different from each of their prior albums, but that's how they've always been. En Vogue changes their style with each album and doesn't stay stagnant, as many other artists do. I love it. Very diverse musical content. Great project! “Reach 4 Me” is my absolute favorite track. Title track “Electric Cafe” has a great beat which is reminiscent of “Sting” in the 80s, but it’s the only overall song on the album that’s not good.

Rhona Bennet brings great vocals to the group, as En Vogues harmony is still signature. Add to your playlist. I purchased this shortly before seeing EnVogue in concert, here in Houston, TX. They still sound, and look amazing; and this CD shows that they still sound as beautiful and funky as many of us remember. Beautiful, soaring vocals and harmonies. Wish it got more airplay. I was really stoked when I heard a new CD from En Vogue was coming out. I saw them perform a song from the CD on TV. The ladies look fab, of course, and the voices are great. I hope this is a success for the ladies and more will come! And for those who don't get or like the Electric Cafe take some past advice given by EV: Free Your Mind! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I have waited for over 14 years for En Vogue to record a follow-up to their release "Soul Flower".

Since that CD En Vogue have been through yet another wave of ups and downs - everything from line-up changes, legal disputes with former band members, and lawsuits from a certain deluded label head. Well it's now - Cindy, Terry and Rhona the line up that recorded their last album are back, Maxine and Dawn are thankfully no-where to be seen, and the girls have found themselves in partnership with a supportive indie label in eOne Records - and I'm happy to say that Electric Cafe was certainly worth the wait. Here is my track by track review: 1. Blue Skies - I first heard them perform a snippet of this back in when the recording process for this album first began and I knew instantly that this would be one song to look out for.

A snippet of the studio version then leaked a couple of years later and that simply heightened my anticipation even more. Well now that I've heard the final song in full I can honestly say that this is already one of my favourite En Vogue songs ever. The message of perseverance is so uplifting and you can't help but feel incredibly moved by the soaring vocals of the EV ladies. Cindy and Terry's verses are simply lush to the ears and Rhona's powerful vocals take it to another level. This is quite easily their best work since 's "Masterpiece Theatre" which, by the way, is an another incredible album that needs to be checked out if you haven't already.

An absolute standout track and one that I hope will become a future single. Deja Vu - This is probably the only song I don't care for. I first heard this when it came out in - I wasn't overly impressed by it then, and although it does sound better within the context of the album, it still isn't as good as what it needs to be. Vocally, there's nothing to complain about. Rocket - The official lead single from Electric Cafe, this song was written by no other than Ne-Yo and produced by Curtis "Sauce" Wilson. The video, by the way, is exceptional too - one of the very best by a group that isn't exactly short on amazing visuals.

The song opens with those fantastic three-part harmonies that the group is known for, and Terry's vocals on the first verse can only be described as almost dream-like. But when the beat drops for that chorus that's when the song really starts! Coupled with the slick harmonies and awesome electronic synths this really does have the makings of an instant EV classic. Rhona's verse and final adlibs brings the song to a triumphant climax that simply leaves the listener begging for more! Reach 4 Me - This song was produced by a young producer by the name of Dem Jointz notable for his recent work Janet Jackson.

In various interviews leading up to the release of Electric Cafe, Rhona Bennett described this particular track as a groove, and that's exactly what this is. And having had the privilege of hearing this performed live not so long ago, and seeing everyone in the crowd bopping hard to it, this song definitely has "hit single" written all over it. Of all the songs on this album this is probably the one that most resembles a classic En Vogue song - something that sounds like it could have been included on their Runaway Love EP alongside the title track and Whatta Man. Electric Cafe - The title track of the album, this song is one that will probably divide the crowd simply because it's so very different to what we've come to expect from En Vogue.

En Vogue have always played with different genres of music and each album of theirs has always been an eclectic mix of different sounds and styles, but this particular track really is uncharted territory for EV. From this point on the album onwards you can really start to feel the EDM influences that inspired the initial recording process for this album the album was originally intended to be a pure dance record. A funky piece of electric soul, Electric Cafe the song sounds a little like a cross between the Pointer Sisters and something Michael Jackson might have recorded in the s. Life - This was another one of my favourites on initial listens. The lyrics are inspiring in a similar vein to Blue Skies but some might find it a little on the preachy side, with it's references to God.

This song is quite unique in that the girls are singing in unison throughout most of the track, which is unusual to hear these days, but of course those signature harmonies are still there - particularly in the chorus. Well done! Love The Way - A fun dance record that sounds like it could have been recorded by Kylie Minogue in the mid to late nineties, and I mean that in the best way possible, being a fan of Kylie and that genre in general! Not a standout track by any means, but nothing to complain about either. Some very nice harmonies in the chorus and breakdowns. Oceans Deep - This song also produced by Dem Jointz took me a little longer to get into, but after hearing it on heavy rotation for a while I've really come to appreciate the genius of it.

Again, it's one of those songs that doesn't really sound like anything En Vogue have recorded in the past and the musical arrangement is very unique. I think Rhona described this one as soul-punk and that's the best way to describe it really. Have A Seat ft. Snoop Dogg - I first heard this late last year, and whilst I did love it quite instantly I wasn't sure how well it would fit in an album supposedly influenced by EDM - but actually they were very clever to place this song immediately after Oceans Deep because it actually flows very well from that track. There's definitely hints of Aretha in their vocal delivery here and the harmonies are flawless as always.

I'm Good - I like the positive message about self-acceptance but I have to say this song sounds like it would have been a better fit on their Soul Flower album. Produced by Raphael Saadiq this definitely has an old skool, neo-soul vibe that sounds a little out of place amongst the more contemporary offerings on Electric Cafe. However by this point in the album the ladies have really moved away from the electronic sound, and I guess it was quite clever to place this song after Have A Seat that song being a buffer of sorts between the EDM-influenced tracks and the old skool soulfulness of I'm Good. Quite simply, this song is about women wanting to be heard, respected, included, treated as equals etc - a welcome change from other so-called feminist anthems that resort to simple male-bashing. This is a perfect female empowerment anthem for From a production point of view, this song is quite similar in style to the opening track Blue Skies and so it seems like a fitting end to the album those two songs bookend the album perfectly.

Have A Seat non-rap version - Nothing much to say about this one, except that it's good for those who may not like Snoop Dogg's rap in the previous version. There's a couple of extra adlibs by Terry where the rap verse used to be, but other than that it's pretty much the same song. Love My Thangs - Some versions of this album includes a bonus track called Love My Thangs, although there has been some confusion as to where one might actually get the album with this song included. It's a fun song produced by Dem Jointz and the bridge uses a sample of "My Favourite Things" but lyrically it's quite random and I can see why it was left off the main album.

Electric Café is the forthcoming seventh studio album by American girl-group En Vogue. Originally envisioned as solely an EDM Electronic dance music album, Electric Café has evolved into what the members of En Vogue have described as an "electronic soul" album with a global flare. News of En Vogue recording its seventh album came as early as [4] when member Rhona Bennett released images of the group in studio with Producer Dem Jointz. Template:En Vogue.
